Cougars Take Two From Whitecaps

Galveston, Tx   On Thursday, April 29th the Cougars traveled to Galveston, Texas for a Region XIV Conference double header.  The two game road trip would mark the last away series for the season.

In the top of the First inning the Cougars wasted no time scoring. Right Fielder Nate Medina would hit a three-run, homer over the Right Center Field wall. 

Coastal Bend Left Handed Pitcher, Cobe Reeves would get the ball to start the game on the mound for the Cougars. Following a two run Homer from the Whitecaps, Reeves and company were able to get out of the inning without any further damage. 

CBC Left Fielder, Zach Seigrist hit an RBI Single to score Designated Hitter, Eric Martinez in the Top of the Third inning. Galveston would answer back with a run of their own to keep the ball game close, but still trailed Coastal Bend, 4-3. 

Both ball clubs would settle in defensively as the remainder of the seven inning game would go scoreless. Reeves went on to pitch a complete game for CBC and record the Win. 


In game two of the double dip, it would be a roller coaster of a game filled with plenty of highs and some lows. Though the game would go into extra innings, the Cougars would pull out a victory to complete the two game sweep. 

The Cougars scored seven runs in first four and half innings. It was not until the bottom of the Fifth inning that the Whitecaps would get on the scoreboard with two runs. 

In the bottom of the Sixth inning, Galveston would cut into the Cougar lead, with two more runs, making it a 7-4 ball game. 

The next score of the ball game happened in the Top of the Eighth inning when Coastal Bend added a run off a passed ball, putting the score at 8-4. Following scoreless frames from both clubs, the Whitecaps would be down to their final three outs.

Galveston would end up rallying in the bottom of the Ninth with four runs to tie the game. Two Whitecaps were on Second and Third with one out. A Whitecap batter hit a line out to CBC Left Fielder, Jacob Wilson who then made an strong, acrobatic throw at the plate to complete the inning ending, double play with the score knotted up at eight runs a piece. 

In the Top of the 10th inning, the Cougars would take a 9-8 lead as Sepulveda delivered an RBI single. CBC would extend their leads as they were granted free bases from walks and a hit by pitch. Coastal Bend would capitalize on the free bases and score three more runs to extend the Cougar lead, 12-8. CBC would hold on to the lead this time, making quick work from the Galveston hitters, going three up, three down to end the game. 

Coastal Bend Center Fielder, JB Trees went two for five at the plate, hitting a Triple, an RBI and scoring two runs. Nate Medina hit a Double, and an RBI for his stat line. Coastal Bend Shortstop, Bret Copeland hit two Doubles that went for three RBI's. First Baseman, Eric Martinez went for one for four in the batters box, recording an RBI Single, to go with us two walks and two runs. Designated Hitter, Ruben Sepulveda batted two for six at the dish, recording three RBI's while also scoring twice. 

CBC Starting Left Handed Pitcher, JJ Sanchez pitched five complete innings on the bump, accounting for one earned run, eight hits and six strikeouts. Jaden Meredith entered the game to relieve Sanchez in the Sixth, but only went  for two and third of an inning. Lefty, Cade Holyfield was the next CBC pitcher to see action on the mound, going two and two thirds of an inning. Holyfield surrendered four hits, four earned while striking out three of the 16 batters he faced.

The games winning pitcher, Isaiah Rodriguez entered the game late and pitched well for the Cougars, allowing one hit during his inning and two thirds of work. The victory would mark Rodriguez's first win of the season.
