The Cougars were able to get on the board early, scoring two runs in the Top of the First frame. CBC Center Fielder, JB Trees and Left Fielder, Ryan Davenport each reached base safely with back to back Singles. Third Baseman, Kane Mendieta was able to drive in Trees & Davenport with an RBI Double.  

 

Coastal Bend gave the nod to Right Handed Pitcher, Jacob Bryant. St. Edward's would respond quickly in the Bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own to knot the game up at two. 

 

In the Top of the Third Inning, CBC Shortstop, Bret Copeland hit a lead-off, Double to begin the inning for the Cougars. Trees was able to score Copeland from Second with an RBI Single to regain the lead. Following an error, Trees was able to advance into scoring position. Coastal Bend Designated Hitter, Ruben Sepulveda scored Trees with a hit down the first baseline to extend the lead. The Cougars held a 4-2 lead going into the Bottom half of the inning. 

 

Both ball clubs managed to reach base through the next few of innings but came up short while trying score. In the Top of the Ninth, Copeland was able to reach first base after getting hit by a pitch. Copeland then advanced to Third base by a throwing error from the Hilltoppers. Trees was at the dish and able to hit a Single into Left Field for an RBI, scoring Copeland at Home. 

 

The Cougars took a 5-2 lead going into the Bottom of the Ninth. Bryant and company managed to hold off the Hilltoppers to secure the victory, 5-2. 

 

JB Trees batted three for five with one RBI on the day. Mendieta finished the game by going two for four with a Double & two RBI's.  Sepulveda went one for four at the place with an RBI. 

 

CBC Starting Pitcher, Jacob Bryant went the distance, pitching eight shutout innings. Bryant threw for Nine complete innings of work, struck out five batters, while allowing three Walks and four hits. 

 

The Cougars will host Blinn College for Region XIV Conference double header at Joe Hunter Field on Thursday, April 22nd. First pitch is at 2:00 PM
